The SUSTOUR project, a European COSME programme funded project, aims to foster the capacities and skills of tour operators and travel agents for sustainable tourism. Through the implementation of training, management systems, standards and solutions, the companies will improve their sustainable management and performance and open up new market opportunities. 627 tour operators and travel agents from 35 European countries are participating in the programme. As part of the project, TrainingAid offered a learning opportunity - based on the TrainingAid course Sustainability Management for Tourism Businesses - to SMEs, sharing practical guidance on implementing sustainability management steps and techniques.

The Task
To foster the capacities and skills of around 300+ tour operators and travel agents for sustainable tourism and help participating SMEs start drafting key components of their sustainability management system, using and applying tools such as: sustainability policy, stakeholder mapping, impact assessment, risk assessment, action planning, and sustainability reporting.
The Solution
Design an online course experience for the SMEs of the program so that they can apply key sustainability management principles to their business operations.
The Implementation
In close coordination with the program coordinators a custom course offer was designed that could accommodate around 300+ tour operators and travel agents from 35 European countries.
The course provided practical guidance on applying key sustainability management principles and techniques, and useful tools for managing, monitoring and continuously improving sustainability practices such as: sustainability policy, stakeholder mapping, impact assessment, risk assessment, action planning, and sustainability reporting.
The course was hosted on TrainingAid's course learning platform and facilitated the learning content, Live Sessions, networking and discussions.
Further as part of the our work, we provided detailed information on sustainability management principles to 12 Travelife coaches.
